Lidl, a grocery chain that operates more than 10,000 stores in 28 countries, will open its first Delaware store at 359 Auto Park Drive in Middletown on August 31.

A Lidl spokesman said the store will probably hire 50 to 60 employees, and applicants may apply through careers@lidl.com.

The grocery chain touts its layout of just six aisles within a 20,000 square-foot store. The Middletown store will feature a bakery, organic fruits, gluten-free items, and a seafood department. The store will offer sustainable items and private-label groceries with no synthetic colors, partially hydrogenated oils or added MSG.

Each week, the chain also features non-food products such as toys or small appliances or fitness gear that are available for a limited time.
