Leo & Jimmy’s Delicatessen, the iconic Wilmington deli that has been serving up sandwiches since 1930, will close on May 5.
Burt Lancaster, Jack Klugman and other celebrities who played at downtown theaters have been among the patrons, according to a News Journal report.
The deli, founded by Jimmy Hackett and Leo Rosenbaum, is currently housed in a 19th Century building at 728 N. Market Street. Buccini/Pollin Group has the buildings under contract as part of a two-building deal with own Barbara Hackett.
The price was not disclosed. A spokesman for Buccini/Pollin said there are no immediate plans for the building but it will probably remain as some sort of eatery.
