The latest figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show more 16- to 24-year-olds were employed in the leisure and hospitality industry than any other in July. The industry employed 5,213 in the U.S.

That compares with 3,756 in the retail sector, the second-largest employer of 16- to 24-year-olds in July.

Most of the hospitality works were white — 4,072. The second-largest group of hospitality workers were Hispanic — 1,104. In addition, there were 638 black workers and 138 Asians.

The same was true for the retail industry, with 2,871 white workers, 500 black workers, 781 Hispanic workers and 173 Asian workers.
