Lawsuit: Delaware psychotherapist sexually abused patient

(AP) — A lawsuit charges that a woman has been sexually abused by a Delaware psychotherapist, who has had several practitioner licenses suspended.

The News-Journal of Wilmington reported Monday that the lawsuit filed last month charges Sachin Karnik with negligence and battery. It says Karnik led the patient to believe that sex acts were a part of her treatment for a history of abuse and depression.

Karnik, the owner of Psychotherapeutic Meditation Center in Newark, tells the newspaper that the situation is “much more complex and intricate than what you know.” He declined to elaborate on advice of counsel.

Karnik’s licenses to practice clinical social work and provide chemical dependency counseling were suspended this year after he was charged crimes including fraud by the state Department of Justice.
