Junior Achievement of Delaware is celebrating the milestone of 500,000 students served since its founding in 1956.
The nonprofit program teaches students, age K-12, skills in work readiness, financial literacy and youth entrepreneurship.
One student from Downes Elementary will be selected as ceremonial student number 500,000 and participate in JA BizTown, a learning laboratory where elementary school students learn how to run a business and contribute to the economy.
Students from the 1956-1957 school year were the first to take part in a program. The students learned about business and the economy with the help of volunteers and advisers from Delaware corporations.
