Highmark CEO Tim Constantine last week visited the Ministry of Caring Child Care Center in Wilmington to check in on a $48,000 grant to improve the lives of low-income children.
The grant supported the Ministry’s Early Childhood Resiliency Project, which aims to improve the social and emotional health of children between the ages of six weeks to five years old. It sets out to build resiliency among children, educate parents, and provide professional development to staff of the Ministry’s three child care centers.
The Devereux Center for Resilient Children, a national nonprofit behavioral health organization, is working on the project as well.
The long-term goal is to help children overcome the hardship and stress of growing up in a low-income household. About 90 percent of the children served by the Ministry of Caring can enroll in the program due to state stipends provided to parents.
