Future agendas for the Delaware Health Resources Board, which regulates the number of beds in hospitals and nursing homes and essentially prevents excessive purchasing of expensive equipment, are expected to include:
- A request by Newark-based Exceptional Care for Children (ECC) to construct a 22-bed skilled nursing building called the “Bridge Unit” at a cost of $10.7 million. The application, which was submitted in July, says that ECC wants to increase its overall bed capacity to a total of 54 beds. The organization serves “medically fragile and technology-dependent children.” It is currently home to 41 Delaware residents, 68% of them from New Castle County. The public notice was sent out Aug. 9. Because there were no requests for a public hearing, the application will have a 90-day review period that will end in early November.
- Nemours Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children has submitted a Notice of Intent to install a new Hybrid Cardiac Cath Lab within its existing lab, which serves pediatric patients. Estimated cost: $6.1 million.
- Post Acute Medical Cubed LLC has submitted a Notice of Intent to build a 34-bed freestanding inpatient rehabilitation facility in Georgetown at an estimated cost of $18 million.
- Beebe Healthcare is planning to submit an application to add 12 additional private inpatient rooms to its specialty surgical hospital on John J. Williams Highway between Rehoboth Beach and Millsboro. The Health Resources Board approved an application in November 2018 to build the surgical hospital. Cost of the project is $3 million.
- Board members also received their normal six-month update on ChristianaCare’s $9.2 million kitchen renovation project. The hospital had been exempted from the Certificate of Public Review process because the project was necessary to maintain the physical structure of the facility and not related to direct patient care.
