Google on Monday announced plans to launch a local growth initiative in Delaware. The tech company’s Grow with Google initiative brings digital skills training through local library systems across the U.S.
Google will kick start the effort in Delaware with free, one-day events in two libraries to help job seekers, small business owners, students, educators and entrepreneurs improve their digital skills.
Delaware tour dates, cities and locations include:
- April 23 in Wilmington, Wilmington Public Library
- · 10:00AM-5:00PM
- · 10 E 10th St, Wilmington, DE 19801
- April 25 in Dover, Dover Public Library
- · 9:30AM-4:30PM
- · 35 Loockerman Plaza, Dover, DE 19901
“Delaware is a center for innovation, entrepreneurship and manufacturing. By bringing the “˜Grow with Google’ tour to the state, we are making a commitment to help develop a skilled workforce that can meet the needs of Delaware’s growing economy,” said Erica Swanson, Google’s head of community engagement.
Grow with Google plans to visit libraries in every state, partnering with them to deliver digital skills training directly to jobseekers and small businesses in their community. It will also train library staff and nonprofit leaders on a range of Grow with Google’s free tools and curriculum they can use on a daily basis.
“Delaware libraries offer more than books; they are innovation and learning centers for our local communities in a global world. It makes perfect sense that our libraries are partnering with Google this April to offer free workshops for Delawareans interested in learning the digital skills that are so crucial in today’s workforce and for the jobs of tomorrow,” said U.S. Senator Tom Carper.
Google staff will lead hands-on workshops about online marketing for small businesses, search engine optimization, email basics and coding. Attendees can also sign up for one-on-one training with Google staff, and tour demo booths to learn more about Google’s free products for learners and small businesses. Attendees are welcome to drop in for a few sessions or stay all day.
Google is partnering with community organizations like the Wilmington Public Library, the Dover Public Library and Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County. Following the Grow with Google event, Google will explore ongoing partnership opportunities with area organizations to help with job training and developing digital skills.
“The Wilmington Public Library strives to be an innovative and inviting link to the world for the communities we serve,” said Jamar Rahming, Director of the Wilmington Public Library. “This objective can only be accomplished by continuing to evolve with the technological climate. That is why we are thrilled to partner with “Grow with Google,” presenting digital skills workshops and providing tools for small business owners and entrepreneurs alike.”
