GeoSwap app helps brands Delaware travel
The Delaware Tourism Office and Delaware State Parks have partnered with GeoSwap, a location-based app created by University of Delaware students, to help brand popular Delaware destinations and events.
The app allows users to share information about places and events happening around them through an interactive map. It also encourages storytelling and placemaking through features like “GeoStories,” which are mashup videos about a given city.
Now the map will include “must-visit locations and must-attend events” marked by pins branded with the Visit Delaware and State Parks logos.
“This is a great example of higher education, a small business and state government working together,” said Gov. John Carney at the announcement. “The partnership shows how innovation drives tourism in the state and how entrepreneurship plays an essential role in the new economy in Delaware.”
GeoSwap recently came in first place at Hen Hatch, a startup competition held in Wilmington, and won $21,000 in prize money
“The tourism landscape is constantly changing, which means the Delaware Tourism Office is always looking for innovative ways to reach consumers,” said Linda Parkowski, Delaware tourism director.”
