EDiS Company of Wilmington will bring two nationally recognized speakers to Wilmington next month.

  • Richard Florida, a global leader in economic competitiveness, will discuss building an entrepreneurial economy for Delaware. Florida is the director of the Martin Prosperity Institute at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. He is also a global researcher professor at New York University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Florida is a senior editor at The Atlantic, and co-founder of The Atlantic’s City Lab.
  • Jon Roberts, managing director and principal of TIP Strategies, an Austin, Texas, business consulting firm, will talk about reviving Delaware’s economy.

The conference, which the company calls the EDiS Institute, will run from 7:30 a.m.-noon on April 21 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront.

Event proceeds will help to underwrite attendance for Delaware’s vocational-education students and to provide financial support to the three vocational education school districts in Delaware. Past EDiS events contributed I $195,000 to help students purchase tools, supplies and equipment used in hands-on student construction projects at the schools.

EDiS Company President & CEO Brian DiSabatino said, “EDiS is excited to showcase the best ideas for economic development from around the country.  Equally important is our focus on galvanizing the community around vocational education.  The link between economic development and vocational education is vital.”

EDiS officials say they established its EDiS Institute in 1998 in gratitude for the company’s 90 years in the construction industry. The event was designed as a biennial half-day forum to examine important business and industry topics, increase communication between the industry and vocational education institutions and encourage high school students to choose construction-related careers. Several opportunities for networking are built into the schedule.

The 2016 EDiS Institute Platinum Sponsor is WSFS Bank. Gold Sponsors are PNC Bank and Tri-State Carpet.
