Chesapeake Utilities Corp. today announced that its natural gas transmission subsidiary, Eastern Shore Natural Gas Company, submitted a request to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Thursday to initiate FERC pre-filing procedures for an expansion project.

The 2017 Expansion Project consists of 33 miles of pipeline looping in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.

It includes upgrades to all Eastern Shore’s existing metering facilities and the installation of an additional 3,550 horsepower compressor unit at the existing Daleville Compressor Station in Chester County, Pa.

It also includes approximately 17 miles of new mainline extension and the addition of two pressure-control stations in Sussex County.

The project will provide up to 86,437 dekatherms per day of additional natural gas transportation capacity to meet market demand, the company said.
