Courtney W. Stevenson, Delaware State University’s oldest living graduate at age 102, was honored with a birthday party at Whatcoat United Methodist Church of Dover earlier this month.

Stevenson, who turned 102 on June 12, graduated in 1944 from the then-State College for Colored Students with a bachelor of science in home economics. She later taught home economics at then-Delaware State College, as well as in the public school system in Delaware.

The State College for Colored Students was the original name of DSU from 1892-1947. The school was renamed Delaware State College in 1947, and then Delaware State University in 1993.
