Draper Media continues its move into Spanish-language media with the launch of WBOC News at 6 on Telemundo Delmarva.
The Salisbury, Maryland-based media company, founded by the late Don Draper, picked up Telemundo Delmarva as an affiliate in October of 2017. Telemundo, a division of NBCUniversal, broadcasts original Spanish-language shows, films, sporting events and news. WBOC News at 6 will add local news coverage to the mix.
“WBOC has a multi-generational history of service to Delmarva, over 75 years, in fact,” said Craig Jahelka, president of Draper Media. “It’s important that we serve all of our viewers in the best way possible. Many Hispanic households here are bilingual. This is a way for us to reach everyone with news, weather forecasts, and the information they deserve.”
WBOC journalists Jennifer Marin and Isabel Sanchez will provide local news and weather updates in Spanish.
“Hispanic households on Delmarva have long been under served by local media, and it’s time that changed,” said Jahelka. “We’re honored to continue a tradition of service and to live up to the moral obligation to serve Delmarva that our founder, Thomas H. Draper instilled in all of us here.”
Comcast, Mediacom, Bay Country, and Charter all carry Telemundo Delmarva. Verizon FIOS will launch it next month.
