Delmarva Power joins disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico

Delmarva Power is stepping up to assist disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. A subsidiary of Exelon, the company is joined by sister utilities Atlantic City Electric, BGE, ComEd, PECO and Pepco.

Delmarva Power employees will travel to Puerto Rico in early February with trucks, supplies and other equipment arriving first. A total of 25 linemen will support local personnel for at least 30 days.

“We are incredibly proud of our dedicated employees who are volunteering to assist in this vital effort,” said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power region president. “Our employees have an ingrained sense of service and are eager to work with crews from across Exelon and across the country to help the residents of Puerto Rico.”

The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority sent a formal request to mainland companies for assistance in early November. The Edison Electrical Institute, an industry group, began coordinating the response among U.S. utilities soon after. It took nearly three months to coordinate the mutual assistance effort. Large sections of the island country remain without power.
