Delaware students plan walkout to honor Parkland victims

(AP) — High school students across Delaware are organizing a walkout to honor the victims the Parkland, Florida, high school shooting that left 17 dead.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports students at almost 20 schools plan to walk out of class March 14 at 10 a.m. The national walkout event will last 17 minutes — one minute for each person killed at the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting — and takes place one month after the attack.

Delaware American Civil Liberties Union Legal Director Ryan Tack-Hooper says students who believe they’re being unfairly punished for exercising their First Amendment rights should contact the ACLU. Some schools with participating students are supportive, though Caesar Rodney High School has blocked students on social media who publicly disagreed with its unsupportive stance.
