The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Alliance will honor this year’s Superstars in Business award winners at their annual awards ceremony at the Hotel du Pont’s Gold Ballroom on Nov. 10.
The Marvin S. Gilman Superstars in Business Award, named for one of Delaware’s leading small business entrepreneurs, honors businesses and non-profit organizations for their outstanding achievements and model approaches to business and management. The awards are presented to companies that have been in business for at least three years, are small businesses based on number of full-time employees, and are members of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce.

Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay (non-profit category)
This organization serves nearly 10,000 girls in grades K-12 and 4,000 adults on the Delmarva Peninsula. While offering girls and young women personal growth and leadership experience, the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay also coordinates girl-led community service and programs ranging from science and technology, business and economic literacy, and outdoor and environmental awareness.
Back to Basics Learning Dynamics Inc. (1-24 employee category)
Founded in 1985, Back to Basics Learning Dynamics Inc. has grown from a sole proprietorship providing 1-on-1 tutoring to children and adults in only a handful of subjects into a full-service education company serving children, adults, schools, districts, corporations and the government.
Bernardon (25-59 employee category)
Established in 1973, Bernardon has been continuously operating for the past 42 years. The firm specializes in regional architecture, interior design and landscape architecture with offices in Wilmington and Kennett Square, Pa.
SoDel Concepts (60-150 employee category)

The Delaware Department of Finance launched a new website that provides the public easy access to the state’s unclaimed property database. The website — delaware.findyourunclaimedproperty.com —will allow users to search by name to find information regarding any unclaimed property they may have in Delaware. The website also allows visitors to submit and check claim status online.
Unclaimed property can include forgotten savings and checking accounts, uncashed checks, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, dividends, and utility deposits and refunds. Most of these accounts are considered abandoned, and have been turned over to the state after years of inactivity.
With the introduction of new processing systems, the number of successful claims in Delaware has increased dramatically. Since July 2013, the department has processed over 22,000 claims — reuniting citizens with more than $225 million in previously unclaimed funds.
“Delaware continues to seek new and innovative ways to reach unclaimed property owners,” says State Escheator David Gregor. “Whether it’s a $50 deposit from a closed utility account, or $5,000 from a forgotten savings account, it’s your money — and it’s our job to get it back to you. We hope this new website will make that process even easier.”
In addition to launching delaware.findyourunclaimedproperty.com, the department will publish the names and addresses of approximately 147,000 owners of unclaimed property in Friday’s editions of the Delaware State News and the News Journal.
