WILMINGTON — The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce cut the ribbon on its new and improved headquarters on 1201 N. Orange Street Thursday morning, finally completing plans that were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state’s leading business association that crosses all sectors and company sizes has been based out of One Commerce Center since 1983 after DuPont had donated the land. Renovations were planned in 2020 to modernize the space and to bring it into the digital age.

“After reinvesting in the space, we are proud to now have a more open and collaborative place for meetings and events with technological additions that allow us to continue serving as a future-ready and forward-thinking organization for Delawareans to connect and solve problems together,” DSCC Chamber of Commerce President Mike Quaranta said.

The renovation was a total overhaul of the chamber offices on the second floor of 1201 N. Orange street. After breaking down walls, the office now features an open floor plan with several coworking spaces to accommodate a hybrid workflow. The conference room was moved to take advantage of windows and to bring in more natural lights and the kitchen has been refreshed. Bathrooms are now updated to meet ADA standards and a new wellness room was also created.

In terms of technology, the conference and meeting rooms are now equipped with the connectivity for virtual and hybrid meetings. The DSCC also invested in new podcast equipment to bring its podcasts, including the popular “Conversations with Kelly” that takes a deeper look at members issues, in-house. All staff also received a convertible standing desk.

“This feels like a game-changer for the organization,” said Marie Holliday, the DSCC Board of Directors Chair and Managing Director of Cover & Rossiter. “Our updated surroundings are an enhancement long overdue that I believe will prove to be a rewarding investment both aesthetically and in terms of building our footprint here in the First State.”

Built in 1983, One Commerce Center is an 11-story high-rise in downtown Wilmington that has also been home to major law firms in the past.
