Delaware has ranked fourth in average retail sales in a national study by Womply, a tech firm that offers data solutions to small businesses.

The company analyzed sales data for every day of  2018 to determine average daily sales, total transactions, and ticket size, which is the average value per transaction.

“The result is a comprehensive look at when local retail shops of all kinds do the most business, when they sell the most items, and when customers spend a little extra when out shopping,” according to Womply.

In Delaware, the average daily sales totaled $1,192. The number of daily transactions averaged 11, and the average ticket size was $77.61.

Saturday was the highest-volume day, with 17 percent of weekly sales and an average of 20 transactions per day. Sunday was the lowest-volume day with nine percent of total weekly sales.

Seasonally, summer dominates sales in Delaware. The first week of July had the highest percentage of annual sales, followed closely by the rest of June and July. The two weeks leading up to Christmas were another stand-out.

Top sales days include 5/26 (Memorial Day Weekend), 7/26, 5/11 (Mother’s Day Weekend), 6/15 (Father’s Day Weekend), and 8/3.
