In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, Delaware Humanities is hosting a year of free public programming linking science, the humanities, and Delaware’s role in space exploration.
The year-long initiative will begin with a lecture by Dr. Douglas Lantry titled “Apollo Spacesuits: History, Technology, and Culture.”Lantry is a curator at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force and served as an advisor to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s “Save America’s Treasures: Threatened Artifacts of the Apollo Program” project.
“The Apollo spacesuits are a uniquely Delaware story featuring Delaware companies,” says Erik Rau, Hagley’s Director of Library Services. “Dr. Lantry had an excellent eye for a good history topic when he wrote his dissertation at the University of Delaware in the 1990s. Hagley is proud to co-sponsor the event and continues its work to help preserve as much as possible of this and other stories in the state’s and nation’s past.”
The lecture, co-sponsored by the Hagley Museum and Library, will take place Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 6:30 PM at the Soda House at Hagley.
