Delaware has one of the highest identity-fraud-complaint rates in the country, according to Smart Asset.
Smart Asset said Delawareans file 807 identity-fraud complaints per 100,000 residents.
Delaware has a high percentage of older residents, the most frequent target of fraudsters, and the state also has a high number of average credit cards per resident. While having many open credit cards allows holders to optimize rewards and extend their available credit, it could increase changes of having identities stolen.
