Delaware Business Times wins two regional awards

WILMINGTON – Delaware Business Times won two top awards in the 2024 Maryland Delaware D.C. Press Association contest, solidifying the news organization’s honors for the year.

The news comes after DBT landed seven awards from the Delaware Press Association, including first place for two cover story features in that contest.

Both Editor Katie Tabeling and Associate Editor Jennifer Antonik earned awards in the larger MDDC contest. All of its 2024 awards came in Category E with papers of a similar size circulation which includes the Baltimore Business Journal, the Baltimore Brew, the Howard County Times and more.

Tabeling won second place in the business reporting category for “Wilmington Black businesses need support to grow stronger.” That story followed three entrepreneurs, all in various stages of starting up their businesses and dove into the resources they used to get there. It also shined a light on what entrepreneurs of color face when they are out trying to find capital to make the business viable.

Antonik also won a second place award for her editorial, “Finding a place for new nonprofits amongst the barriers.” Outside the newsroom, Antonik spends her free time running a grassroots nonprofit, DJ’s Alliance, which focuses on support for those who had lost a loved one to suicide. Her editorial focuses on the daily struggle of balancing two jobs she is passionate about, on top of the constant battles of securing funding and volunteers for a new nonprofit.
“I’m thrilled to see the fruits of the Delaware Business Times’ hard work in an otherwise difficult year,” Tabeling said of the awards. “These awards signal that we are on the rise and continue to strive to deliver not only award-winning but strong, quality journalism our readers are looking for.”
