Delaware Business Times to publish Innovation Delaware magazine

Delaware’s innovation leaders will be showcased in a new magazine to be published by Delaware Business Times and Today Media in June.

Innovation Delaware magazine will be a comprehensive guide to industry innovators, leaders, and companies large and small that are leading transformative work in sectors ranging from bioscience to financial technology.

Delaware is already home to a large concentration of high-caliber talent. Innovation Delaware will connect the dots between key science, education and financial sectors, and will give readers a look at the history and current trends as offered by industry leaders.

It will also include a number of success stories and profiles of companies and entrepreneurs at the forefront of innovation. Some are small risk-taking individuals, while others are fast-tracking companies that have been shaped by legacy giants like DuPont.

“We got the idea to do this after reading the Delaware Business Roundtable’s Delaware Growth Agenda,” said Publisher Rob Martinelli. “The Growth Agenda called for the promotion of Delaware’s entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem. We thought, what better way to do this than with a magazine.”

The 8 ½ x 11″ four-color glossy magazine will be inserted into Delaware Business Times in June and overprinted for use by various partners. There will also be a digital edition available on the Delaware Business Times website.

“We all know a well-articulated, graphic and encompassing marketing/resource guide is the biggest missing tool to support the story “˜Why Delaware for innovation,'” said Mike Bowman, president of Delaware Technology Park (DTP).

DTP, along with First State Innovation, Delaware Business Roundtable, and the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce have partnered with Delaware Business Times to produce the magazine, and key stakeholders throughout the state have offered support and ideas for the project.

Innovation Delaware will include the following sectors:

  • Advanced Materials and Manufacturing
  • Agriculture
  • Biotechnology
  • Chemistry
  • Education/STEM
  • FinTech
  • Health care
  • Technology.

In addition, the publication will also feature a guide to innovation resources – from capital and start-up funding to education — and make the case “why Delaware.”

“Delaware has a rich history of innovation but that innovation has largely been driven by large companies,” said Bob Perkins, executive director of the Delaware Business Roundtable. “With the changing economic landscape we find that the future of good paying, clean jobs rests in more technology oriented fields.”

He added that the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem must be pulled together to make sure that Delaware is on cutting edge of attracting capital, investments, and talent that will drive new companies that could become major employers in the state.

“The target audience is attraction and retention of scaling technology businesses, new entrepreneurs/start-ups/spinouts and international companies who don’t know us,” said Bowman.

“That future is an innovation economy”¦ and the states in the best position to compete for the jobs that are being created will be the ones that embrace innovation, invest in startups and entrepreneurs and develop a high-skilled workforce,” said Gov. John Carney, during his campaign for office last year.
