AGE: 34
TITLE: Director
COMPANY: Whisman, Giordano & Associates LLC
CITY: Wilmington
What the nominator said: “Joe Giordano joined the firm and became a partner in 2011. He provides leadership in numerous ways, including coaching younger professionals to accept and handle additional responsibilities, by volunteering for certain events for our nonprofit clients. He has also become an advocate for the Amy L. Giordano fund at the Boys and Girls club of Delaware and routinely goes above and beyond in his contributions to Toys for Tots.”
Your biggest break: When I lost my wife, Amy, to MRSA pneumonia, I was rendered basically useless for close to six months, maybe longer. Our team at Whisman-Giordano gave me the space and time that I needed to heal. It is impossible for me to show them the true depth of my gratitude.
Best career advice you ever got: Be yourself.
Two words that best describe you: Hilariously confident.
Work/life balance technique you recommend: I don’t believe work/life balance is such a thing anymore. I believe it has become work/life “blend.” By that, I mean that we’re all so connected, there is no real separation. I think you have to force yourself to have a certain discipline when it comes to checking emails, texts or taking phone calls.
If you were in charge of Delaware: Martial law in Wilmington to deal with the senseless violence? (That’s a joke.) I’m really not sure how to do it, but I’d like to see Delaware bring more businesses into the state, be they small, medium or large.
