Social media you can’t live without: In an increasingly”¯digitized”¯society, social media is an excellent way to stay connected with other people and up-to-the-minute news. I probably use Twitter the most, but I can definitely live without it. I truly value”¯face-to-face conversation and the best news coverage is still delivered in print.
Your biggest break: I earned a full scholarship to attend the University of Delaware. My family couldn’t afford to send me to college. It meant a lot to me and still does.
Best career advice you ever got: “You deserve to be here.”
How you give back: First and foremost, I try to be a good mother, wife, friend and neighbor.
Your biggest challenge: Trying to be a good mother, wife, friend and neighbor.
Networking group you use the most: I’ve been involved in my professional association, the Public Relations Society of America, for more than 10 years.
Work-life balance technique you recommend: I accepted my current job in large part because I was impressed with the talented team of mostly women. Today my employer, Navient, has more female independent directors than any company of its size. That diversity of perspective at a senior level makes a difference in the culture of an organization. Finding a happy work-life balance starts with working for the right organization for you.
