Larry is both a skilled negotiator and an accomplished trial lawyer. He has taken over 15 cases to jury trial ““ an impressive number for a personal injury attorney under the age of 40 ““ but more importantly, he has an equally impressive record of obtaining substantial verdicts and settlements for injured clients, including a $9 million settlement in one particular case.

Age: 37

Managing Partner

Kimmel, Carter, Roman, Peltz & O’Neill, P.A.

Wilmington, Newark

Your biggest break: My biggest breaks have always involved great mentors. I was especially lucky that my dad’s legal practice handles personal injury, the type of law that I was most interested in. Learning from him and the other Kimmel Carter partners when I was starting out and while I was taking over as managing partner was the best training I could have asked for, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Best career advice you ever got: Treat every client like their case is the only one you are handling. Return clients’ calls so they know that they are important to you and that you are taking care of them.

How you give back: By offering lower rates to clients who need help, through the Delaware Trial Lawyers Association, by promoting justice for injury victims, and as a founder and co-chair of the Jewish Federation of Delaware’s Ben-Gurion Society, which encourages the young Jewish community to support the Federation’s philanthropy. As an organizer of the annual Blue-Gold All-Star Basketball Games, I have the chance to create educational opportunities for high school student athletes and to help the intellectually and developmentally disabled community in Delaware by raising funds and awareness for Best Buddies Delaware.

Your biggest challenge: Balancing work and family life; I have been married for nine years and have three children under the age of five, and I also juggle a huge caseload and manage the largest law firm that exclusively handles workers’ compensation and personal injury in Delaware, so I’m always trying to find ways to spend more time with my family.

Networking group you use the most: I started the Professional Society of Delaware in 2006 to promote discussion and to build relationships among a group of 50 young professionals in Delaware. I’m also actively involved in the Delaware State Bar Association as former Chair of the Workers’ Compensation section and the Delaware Trial Lawyers Association as a Past President.

Work-life balance technique you recommend: I think it’s important to block off time every day to spend with family. For me, it’s usually in the mornings before my kids go to school and camp, but someone else may prioritize a family dinner, or another time that works for them.
