The Caesar Rodney Institute (CRI) will host education philanthropist and venture capitalist Ted Dintersmith, who will talk about Project Based Learning (PBL).

Dintersmith will show his documentary, “Most Likely to Succeed,” which profiles San Diego’s “High Tech High” and follows an actual student project. High Tech High comprises five high schools, four middle schools and four elementary schools. These schools collectively have roughly 5,000 students – 63% are students of color and 42% qualify for free or reduced lunch. Despite these obstacles, 96% of their graduates have gone on to post-secondary educational institutes with 66% of them attending four-year institutions.

The learning model features collaborative projects and skills like cooperation, public speaking, writing, researching and producing videos and artwork.

The documentary has won awards from the Tribeca Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival and Sundance, three of the thirteen film festivals where it’s won awards since debuting a year ago.

Dintersmith will lead a discussion panel with three local PBL advocates who have helped place PBL in Delaware schools – seven charter schools and one public school.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Delaware Museum of National History. Admission to the event is free. To RSVP: Visit the website or e-mail sam@caesarrodney.org
