ChristianaCare opens new care facility in Milford

MILFORD – A new primary care facility is now accepting patients as ChristianaCare opens its first Milford location.

Dr. Chinwe Ike-Chinwo was chosen as the primary care physician at the new 10,000 square foot location along U.S. Route 13. ChristianaCare anticipates about 2,5000 patient visits in its first year at the site.

“We understand the importance of primary care in prevention and progression of chronic diseases and are excited to support this growing community. ChristianaCare has focused on strategies to improve access and continuity of care, which our Milford team is ready to showcase. Our caregivers work together to take care of our patients’ needs,” ChristianaCare Physician Executive for Core and Advanced Primary Care Dr. Priya Dixit-Patel told the Delaware Business Times in an email.

Along with a continually growing population, Milford’s central location was a convincing factor when the nonprofit healthcare system looked at opportunities for growth. A press release from ChristianaCare also lists Sussex County as a designated “medically underserved area” as its population continues to climb.

“While Delaware is not a large state, we do appreciate that the distance from Kent and Sussex counties to Newark in New Castle County could be a barrier to some patients receiving care and we are thrilled to be able to provide access in this location. We specifically chose this location over the Rehoboth location to provide a more central location in the state,” Comprehensive Stroke Program Medical Director and Neuroscience Service Line Physician Executive Dr. Kim Gannon told DBT in an email.

The new location in Milford will also include a neurointerventional specialty treating aneurysms, strokes and other conditions affecting the head, neck and spine.

“Our practice of five neurointerventional surgeons does not currently have any clinic easily accessible to our patients in Kent or Sussex County. To this end, we wanted to start providing clinical access to our patients who may require an interventional procedure with the ability to have clinic appointments closer to their homes,” Gannon said.

This is not the only recent growth on the books for ChristianaCare as it has worked to expand its footprint over the last few years, including plans for a new neighborhood hospital in Aston, PA., and an expansion of its campus in Middletown.

ChristianaCare also opened primary care offices in Rehoboth Beach in early 2023.

“Delaware has seen tremendous growth in the last four years, with over 25,000 people relocating to our state with Sussex County seeing the most growth. Delaware is also the sixth oldest state with more patients over the age of 65 and we need to meet the health care needs of growing communities. We are centering our efforts on retaining and recruiting skilled and compassionate primary care providers to provide care,” Dixit-Patel said.
