Nick Mazzio waited all night outside the new Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop in Newark Shopping Center for his chance to win a free Bobbie once a week for a year. The sandwich shop offered a year of free Bobbies – a $403 prize – to the first 100 customers on its doorstep Jan. 9 to celebrate its move to a new location in the center.

Mazzio, who arrived at 11 p.m. Jan. 8, was first in line. He said he’s been a Bobbie fan for years. “Thanksgiving is one of the better meals of the holidays, and there’s nothing like having it on a sub,” he said.

Capriotti’s moved from the west side of center to the other side, all part of a $10 million renovation of the 61-year-old shopping plaza engineered by Atlantic Realty, the Virginia property-management company that bought the center in 2012. The renovation brought new fronts for some buildings and major overhauls for others. It also brought new tenants to Newark, including Churrascaria Saudades Brazilian Steakhouse.
