Three commercial properties just changed hands in the southwest corner of 4th and Market streets in downtown Wilmington.

The third generation owners, Francis and Margaret Abessinio, sold 317 N. Market Street, 2 W. Fourth Street and 4 W. Fourth Street to the Buccini Pollin Group.

Nearby neighbors include the New Castle County Courthouse, Delaware Technical Community College, and the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Railroad Station.

The properties had remained family-owned for over 80 years. More than a century ago, they served as the U.S. Post Office for Wilmington.

In 1915, the seller’s grandfather, Rocco Abessinio (1886-1972) arrived in this country from Bella, Italy. He operated a hat cleaning and shoe shine business at the site. He was succeeded in ownership by his son, Vito M. Abessinio (1923-2005), a Wilmington real estate professional and father of the seller.

Jon Hickey of NAI Emory Hill Real Estate Services was the sole broker in the transaction.
