All repainting work on the Delaware Memorial Bridge will be suspended during the papal visit. Beginning today, all bridge lanes will be open to traffic and remain open through Monday.
Work on the southbound span will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday, and one lane will be closed until the Thanksgiving holiday as painting contractors work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
On the northbound side, one lane will be closed weekdays beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. through Friday at 1 p.m. The closure is required in order for workers to dismantle the scaffolding around the bridge towers.
The tower painting work should be completed in early December.
Motorists should expect delays on both spans and on the approaches to the bridge.
