Bill forces some Wilmington officials to disclose back taxes

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Wilmington officials have passed legislation that requires some city employees to disclose overdue parking tickets, back water bills and delinquent taxes.
Mayor Dennis P. Williams says he will sign the ordinance, which was unanimously approved by those in attendance at the City Council meeting Thursday night.
The legislation requires elected and appointed officials to fill out a disclosure form listing all of the debt they owe to the city. Council members described it as a move to improve transparency and accountability.
Violators who provide a false statement on money they owe to the city could be charged with a misdemeanor offense punishable by a maximum violation of one year in prison and a fine of $2,300.
