Bidens make breakfast stop at Egg again

REHOBOTH BEACH — As snow blanketed northern Delaware and parts of Washington D.C., President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden opted for a weekend at the Delaware beach, including a breakfast stop at Egg in Rehoboth Beach.
The Bidens dined for roughly an hour on Sunday at the popular beach breakfast spot at the entrance of downtown Rehoboth Beach, according to White House press pool reports. This marks the second trip to Egg during Biden’s presidency, although it has been a favorite spot of the president over the years. This is the Bidens’ second stop at Egg in four months.
Christie Husband, a manager at Egg, told the Delaware Business Times at this point the staff is familiar with the routine when the Bidens come to dine in.
“We got a call from the U.S. Secret Service around 8:30 a.m., and we all know the drill,” Husband said. “They watch the kitchen staff and the doors. They’re pretty chatty and friendly even when they’re watching the food prep,” she said. “Then [Jill Biden] quietly comes in first, and then he follows.”
The president deviated from his standard order of buttermilk pancakes and opted for scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. The first lady dined on the Eastern Shore benedict this time.
Husband said the energy inside was calm, but it may not look that way from the outside. The traveling press pool was parked right outside the restaurant at 510 Rehoboth Ave., with even a television camera set up on the sidewalk.
“It’s funny, I’m pouring coffee and you look out the window and you see a crazy amount of cars on the other side,” Husband said. “The customers love it, and it’s a wholesome experience. [Biden] is typically grabbing phones for photos. We usually have some customers come in afterwards asking about the president.”
Opened in 2016 by owner Melissa Postles, Egg has quickly become a go-to spot for tourists and locals alike, including the Bidens. Since Joe left the vice president’s office in 2016, they have reportedly eaten at the small cafe a few times. The last time the Bidens dined there was in October 2023.
Husband said that Biden traditionally takes a picture with the staff during these trips.
“I actually just found one of the first photos from six years ago. They rode bikes and stopped in,” she said.
Despite making dozens of trips home over the past three years, Biden has dined at seven Delaware restaurants while he occupied the White House. Biden also has stopped at Matt’s Fish Camp in Lewes, and Banks’ Seafood Kitchen, The Quoin and Rocco Italian Grill & Sports Bar in Wilmington.
This past weekend, the Bidens enjoyed a quiet stay at their North Shores home and then stopped at the Congo Legacy Center in Wilmington on Sunday to attend the visitation for former Wilmington City Council president Ted Blunt.
