The Biden Foundation on Thursday, April 25 announced its plan to suspend operations while Joe Biden runs for president.
In a statement, Board Chair Ted Kaufman outlined the reasoning for the suspension:
“The fact of the matter is that the Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden are the heart and soul of the Biden Foundation, and now will be devoting all their time and effort to the presidential campaign. Therefore the foundation has decided to suspend all operations.”
Since launching in 2017, the foundation has focused on the following mission-areas:
- Advancing Community Colleges
- Ending Violence Against Women
- Ensuring LGBTQ Equality
- Protecting Children
- Shaping Foreign Policy
- Strengthening the Middle Class
- Supporting Military Families
The foundation anticipates a short “wind-down period,” in which the board will work with staff to ensure a smooth transition. More information will be available soon on the foundation’s website.
