The Beebe Healthcare Board approved a $180 million expansion on June 7 that would increase service in Lewes, Rehoboth, and Millville. The expansion would take place over the next several years. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2018.

Beebe frames the expansion as a way to keep up with the growth happening in Delaware’s coastal towns.

“Our community is an attractive place to live and keeps growing,” said Jeffrey M. Fried, president and CEO of Beebe Healthcare. “Beebe remains committed to expanding with it and to meeting the healthcare needs of the people who live in and visit the area.”

The board’s plan includes expanding the existing hospital campus in Lewes, adding a new Specialty Surgical Center to the facility in Rehoboth, and building a new facility in Millville with a freestanding emergency department.

Some of the $180 million behind the expansion will come from charitable contributions.

“We have so many grateful patients in this community, many who have given back to Beebe in one form or another. With our advanced thanks, the community’s philanthropic support will be critical to bring this vision to life,” said Judy Aliquo, president of Beebe Medical Foundation.
