Bancroft Construction Company in Wilmington won the National Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award for its work on Longwood Gardens in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

The project entailed restoring Longwood’s Main Fountain Garden, one of the most iconic attractions in the 1,077-acre botanical garden.

The work lasted two years and cost $90 million to rebuild the garden’s mechanical/electrical systems and construct a new stairwell, grotto and trellis bridge. The completed project reopened in May 2017.

Judged selected the winners based on completion time, complexity, workmanship, complexity, safety and unique challenges overcome in the construction.

“It’s been an honor to be recognized for these national awards by two of the most prestigious associations in the construction industry,” said Greg Sawka, president and CEO of Bancroft Construction. “The project was a true team effort from a multitude of Bancroft departments, including Preconstruction, Operations, and Marketing. We applaud our trusted partner Longwood Gardens in the great success of this project, and are honored to have worked on such a significant project in their history.”
