GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) — A New Jersey company has been given approval from a state health board to build a psychiatric hospital in Sussex County.

The Delaware Health Resources Board on Thursday unanimously approved the Georgetown facility, which will be built by Red Bank, New Jersey-based SUN Behavioral Health.

SUN Behavioral Health President and CEO Steve Page says construction will begin on the $18 million, 90-bed psychiatric hospital next summer, with construction expected to be completed about 12 months later. The hospital will be located across the street from Delaware Technical Community College’s Georgetown campus.

Currently there are no inpatient mental health facilities in Sussex County.

Page estimates that there will be 160 staff members employed once the hospital opens.
