Christiana Care to host first Lung Cancer Symposium

Christiana Care Health System is hosting its Inaugural Lung Cancer Symposium. The event will take place at the John H. Ammon Medical Education Center in Newark on Monday, April 16.

The symposium will host both healthcare professionals members of the community interested in public health. Speakers will share new approaches to reducing death among lung cancer patients and discuss the latest research.

The most recent statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention show that nearly 216,000 people suffer lunch cancer every year. About 155,000 people die from it.

A number of well-known scientists and researchers will attend, including:

  • Eric Kmiec, Ph.D., director of the Gene Editing Institute at Christiana Care’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute.
  • Scott Siegel, Ph.D., MHCDS, director of Population Health Psychology at Christiana Care’s Value Institute.
  • Bo Lu, M.D., radiation oncologist at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.
  • Daniel Rodriguez, Ph.D., professor of Public Health at LaSalle University.
  • Albert A. Rizzo, M.D., FACP, FACCP, chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Christiana Care and key medical advisor to the American Lung Association.
  • Gregory A. Masters, M.D., lung cancer specialist with the U.S. National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program at Christiana Care’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute and associate professor of Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.
  • Heather Bittner Fagan, M.D., MPH, FAAFP, associate vice chair of Research in Family & Community Medicine at Christiana Care.
