More than 28,000 in Delaware work for women-owned enterprises

Delaware has 26,800 women-owned firms that employ 28,200, according to American Express’ new State of Women-Owned Businesses Report.

Nationally, the number of women-owned firms increased by 45% to 11.3 million enterprises, compared to just a 9% increase among all businesses since 2007. In Delaware, women-owned businesses increased 37.8 percent.

The number of people employed by Delaware’s women-owned businesses jumped from 19,359 in 2002 to an estimated 28,200 currently.

Delaware is ranked 20th with 37.8 percent growth of number of firms over the past nine years and 38th with 20.4 percent growth of firm revenue between 2007 and 2016. Total sales for Delaware’s women-owned companies are estimated to be  $3.6 million this year.
