New Castle – The East Coast Reboot, an annual technology competition created by Wilmington University professor Scott Shaw, will soon expand all over Wilmington. Organizers say it could draw 30,000 visitors and have a $6 million impact on the city and county.
The university today announced it will collaborate with Dub 3, an experiential entertainment company with a background in motion picture production, video gaming and fan-based conventions.
Shaw, program chair for game design and development and video and motion graphics at the university, created the popular competition. Dub 3 will redevelop it as a multi-day technology competition that will showcase emerging gaming tech and encourage students, amateurs and professionals to compete. It will also feature a game-centric popu culture convention aimed at drawing Gen Z and millennial participants.
The reboot, featuring gaming and tech competitions at the university’s New Castle campus and along Wilmington’s Market Street and its riverfront, will give Wilmington University students practical experience in tech and gaming and introduce them to staffers from those industries.
The next East Coast Reboot probably will occur in 2018, a spokesperson said.
