DOVER — Workers have put the final touches a project aimed at making the Coastal Highway more pedestrian-friendly.
Delaware Gov. Jack Markell and other state officials celebrated the completion of the $7.2 million project earlier this month.
The state installed several new crosswalks to allow pedestrians to safely cross Del. 1. There is now also six miles of continuous sidewalk from Nassau Bridge to Rehoboth Canal Bridge. Workers also improved or added 19 bus stops.
Markell said the stretch of road is the gateway to Delaware’s beach resorts and “should reflect the best we can offer in terms of traffic and pedestrian safety.”
The project began in September 2014.
