UD Acting President Nancy Targett accepts position at University of New Hampshire
Newark, Del. — University of Delaware Acting President Nancy Targett, has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), as reported in UDaily., the university’s student newspaper.
Her appointment is effective Sept. 1. Targett became acting president at UD in July 2015 following the departure of President Patrick T. Harker, who stepped down to become chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.
Targett has been a member of the faculty at UD since 1984, where she has served as dean of its College of Earth, Ocean and Environment and director of the Delaware Sea Grant since 2005.
“Nancy brings an enormous breadth of experience to this role,” said UNH President Mark Huddleston on the UNH website. “She recognizes the many challenges facing higher education across the country. I am confident she is the person to strengthen the quality of our academic and research programs as we enhance UNH’s profile as a top-tier university.”
Target earned her doctorate in oceanography at the University of Maine and her master’s in marine science at the University of Miami.
Targett’s term as acting president expires when Dennis Assanis assumes the role July 1.
