Sussex County reassessment project deadline shifts to 2025

GEORGETOWN – An additional year will be incorporated into the comprehensive evaluation of all properties within Sussex County.
The County will extend the reassessment project, which was prompted by a lawsuit regarding school financing filed against the State of Delaware, all three counties, and the County on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, by one year. All three counties agreed to carry out property reassessments in their respective regions as part of the 2021 settlement of the dispute.
In accordance with the terms of the initial settlement, Sussex County was supposed to complete its reassessment project by the year 2024. This was to ensure that the county’s residents would get their tax bills during the latter part of the summer and before the annual deadline for tax payments on September 30. The year 2025 has been included in the timeline as of right now.
According to county authorities, Tyler Technologies, the vendor with which the county has a contract, has experienced higher-than-expected personnel turnover.
“In any jurisdiction, but especially in a county the size of Sussex, this is a great boost. It is taking our vendor a lot longer to complete the essential work because of the large number of shipments and the manpower shortage, according to finance director Gina A. Jennings. “We want this done right, accurately and fairly, and Tyler Technologies will be able to do that with the year extension.”
