NEWARK — Schlosser & Associates Mechanical Contractors is celebrating its 70th year in the family business, now with its third generation of leadership in HVAC, plumbing solutions and more.

Founded in 1954 as Schlosser Plumbing & Heating by Paul Schlosser Sr., the company first started with plumbing and heating services to the greater Newark area. But soon to meet with the booming residential development, the company offered air conditioning.

By 1980 when Schlosser’s son, Paul Schlosser Jr., assumed leadership, the company expanded to commercial plumbing, heating, air conditioning, site utility, mechanical piping systems and process piping systems.

Today, the company is run by President Steve Dennis and wife Garnet, who is the daughter of founder Paul Schlosser Sr. and today the company’s vice president. In the early years of her father’s business, she remembered the phone rang in the family kitchen after hours and on weekends. She and her siblings would have been taking calls for the business.

“The second and third generation currently working at Schlosser & Associates is honored to continue the traditions and examples that were set by the first generation.  And we look forward to the fourth generation continuing the same traditions and customer service, “ Dennis said.

The couple rejoined the family business in 1992, after the birth of their first son, Zach. Steve began working in the field and became service manager in 2000. When Schlosser Jr.’s illness made it impossible for him to continue work, Dennis became service manager.

After Schlosser Jr.’s passing in 2013, Dennis became the company president. After raising the couple’s four children, Garnet Dennis returned to the business and managed the accounts.

Today, three of the Dennis children are integral parts to the family business. Zach serves as operations manager, Chris and Justin are both estimators.
