Best Egg, a fintech company, named Amy Thoreson Long the chief legal officer and corporate secretary. With a wealth of experience spanning decades in the finance industry, Thoreson Long brings a deep understanding and proven track record of success to her new role. As Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary, she will oversee all legal matters, work to align legal strategies with business goals, manage Best Egg’s compliance, enterprise risk, and internal audit programs, and participate in strategic planning. Thoreson Long will report to Best Egg Chief Executive Officer Paul Ricci and serve on the company’s Executive Operating Committee.

Thoreson Long joined Best Egg over one year ago as general counsel, managing director, where she was the lead attorney for all legal and compliance matters impacting the company. Before Best Egg, she practiced law for over twenty years, working for various financial services firms, including fintech lender Oportun, Wells Fargo Bank, and Conseco Finance.

Beebe Healthcare announced the addition of David R. Nehring, MD, to their medical staff.
Dr. Nehring is a general surgeon who cares for patients diagnosed with a diverse range of medical conditions requiring surgical intervention – with the most common being hernia repairs and colon resections. He also provides general surgical services for patients of all ages who present in the Emergency Department, demonstrating acute onset of appendicitis, gallbladder attacks, and hernias. Dr. Nehring has a specific interest in minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques, and applies these techniques and technologies often in the operating room.
“Beebe has a small community feel, but with incredible resources designed to provide high quality care,” Dr. Nehring said. “I am proud to join this team, and to work for a healthcare system where I can have a voice in helping build and expand services to meet the needs of people who live in Sussex County and across the state of Delaware.”
Dr. Nehring is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville. He completed his general surgery residency at Akron City Hospital, part of the Summa Health System, in Akron, Ohio, where he was ultimately awarded the William H. Falor Research Award for Outstanding Resident Research and Presentation. He has served as a guest lecturer and volunteer educator at both organizations. Dr. Nehring is a member of the American College of Surgeons.
Outside of work, Dr. Nehring likes to hike, swim, and run – a new passion that was born during the COVID pandemic, when he pursued a Couch-to-5k training plan and race. He has been running ever since! Dr. Nehring also enjoys spending time at the pool with his wife and daughter.

Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) Commissioners announced the appointment of Ceil Smith of Salem, New Jersey to serve as the next deputy executive director at the DRBA.

“Ceil’s credentials and experience are a great match for the Deputy Executive Director position, and we fortunate to have her as part of the leadership team,” Vice Chairman Earl Ransome said. “She’s focused and determined to make a difference here and I look forward to working with her as the organization moves forward.”
The position of Deputy Executive Director focuses on Authority-related economic development initiatives, plans internal and external communication strategies, handles governance matters, fosters on-going working relationships with state and local officials, supervises all DRBA marketing activities, and directs the agency’s federal grant process. Smith, who reports to the Executive Director Thomas J. Cook, began her official duties on Monday, August 5, 2024.
Accepting the position, Smith said, “I am honored that the Commission selected me to handle the responsibilities of Deputy Executive Director. I look forward to working with our leadership team as we balance our two very important missions: managing our vital transportation links that have aided the growth and prosperity of the region while engaging in economic development initiatives to create and retain jobs for area residents.”
A DRBA Commissioner for more than 18 years, Ceil Smith brings a wealth of experience in community and government relations, economic development, and marketing management Prior to joining the DRBA, Smith served as the Executive Director of the Salem County College Foundation for nearly ten years. She began her career as an advertising representative at Today’s Sunbeam in 1986. During her 30-year career in the newspaper business, Smith served in several managerial positions, each with an increasing level of responsibility, including as the paper’s publisher for the final ten years.
Active in civic and community activities, Smith serves as a member of the Salem City Council. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Memorial Hospital of Salem County, Salem County Chamber of Commerce, SCVTS Educational Foundation Board, Meals on Wheels, Salem Main Street and as a member of both the Salem County Rotary Club and United Way. Smith was presented with the Salem County Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award in 2001, the Cavalry Community Development Corporation Service Award in 2005, and the prestigious Crystal Rose Award from the Salem County Chamber of Commerce.
CBRE, Global Commercial Real Estate Services, announced three former JLL, a commercial real estate agency, executives have joined the firm’s Radnor and Philadelphia, PA offices. Ashley Parrillo will join as a senior vice president, while Anthony LiVecchi and Peter Barnes will serve as first vice presidents. The team will focus on account management as well as office tenant representation throughout greater Philadelphia.

The Bayhealth Foundation recently appointed four new members to its Board of Directors.
Michael G. Sweeney, MD, has been a member of the Bayhealth medical staff since 1989. He has served on and chaired multiple hospital committees over the years, and was a member of the hospital board for 11 years. Sweeney moved to Dover in 1986 while serving in the Air Force.
Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, he attended the University of Maryland for undergraduate studies, and Georgetown University School of Medicine for his medical degree. He has been happily married to his wife, Lynne, for 43 years, and has four children and 10 grandchildren.
Gary Camp is the vice president of Marketing and Communications for Dover Motor Speedway. Camp has been a member of the Speedway team for 19 years and oversees the planning and implementation of the facility’s marketing and communications efforts. He also serves as the primary agent for communicating the activity and business position of the Speedway to the media, generating positive publicity for the track’s NASCAR race weekend, music festivals and other Speedway Motorsports events.
He currently serves on the board of directors of Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware and Susquehanna Valley and Kent County Tourism Corporation, and also serves as the executive director of Speedway Children’s Charities Dover Motor Speedway chapter.
Before joining the Speedway, he worked for five years as an account executive and media buyer at Shipley Associates, a full-service advertising and public relations agency in Wilmington, Delaware. He was also previously employed as a technical writer at Chase.
A native of Piscataway, New Jersery, Camp graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor’s degree in English, and a concentration in business and technical writing. He currently resides in Wilmington with his wife Kristin, and their daughters Lily and Olive.
Holly Pfeifer, who was married to the late Donald Pfeifer, MD, is a long time donor to Bayhealth. Most recently, she contributed to the Bayhealth Sussex Campus project, including a gift to dedicate the Medical Staff Lounge in the new hospital in Dr. Pfeifer’s memory. An orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Pfeifer joined the medical practice of the late Edward F. “Terry” Quinn, III, MD, founder of The Dickinson Medical Group and former chief of surgery at Milford Memorial, when the couple moved to Milford from Baltimore in 1977.
A former home design and residential architecture freelance consultant, Pfeifer freelanced with architectural firm French & Ryan on the design of the third building for The Dickinson Medical Group — now known as Bayhealth’s Quinn Medical Offices.
Kathy Newcomb is the vice president of business development for Coldwell Banker Premier in Rehoboth Beach, and she is involved in the financial oversight and management of her family restaurant, Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant.
She devotes her time to multiple charities and organizations, and currently serves as a board member for the Jason Anderson Foundation for Youth Sports and as treasurer for the Cape Henlopen Field Hockey Boosters. She resides in Milton, Delaware, with her husband and two children.
