Newark – The Food Bank of Delaware announced Friday, Dec. 18, that Incyte Corp. has donated $150,000 to the organization’s COVID-19 relief efforts. This donation will enable the Food Bank of Delaware to provide 450,000 meals to Delawareans struggling with food insecurity.

Since the start of the pandemic, the organization has distributed more than 13 million pounds of food through community distributions and its network of community food pantry partners. It is estimated that there are more than 164,000 food insecure Delawareans as a result of pandemic’s economic impacts.

To help address increased demands for services, the Food Bank of Delaware has also been hosting monthly large drive-thru mobile pantries for families in need of food. Since March, the Food Bank has distributed more than 2.5 million pounds of food to more than 31,000 households just through these monthly distributions.

According to a new research study of families utilizing the Food Bank’s monthly drive-thru mobile pantry, 69 percent of respondents were not utilizing food pantries prior to the pandemic.

“On behalf of our employees, we are very pleased to support the important work that the Food Bank of Delaware is leading – especially during these unprecedented times when so many families are being significantly impacted by the pandemic,” said Paula Swain, Executive Vice President, Human Resources at Incyte in a statement. “Incyte is committed to being actively involved in and supporting our local Delaware community.”

“We are grateful for Incyte’s support,” said Food Bank of Delaware Chief Development Officer Larry Haas. “The demands for our services have been unprecedented. Without generous donors like Incyte, we would not be able to effectively serve our community. This past year we have met so many people who have never needed assistance before – we are incredibly thankful that so many individuals and organizations have aided us during this great time of need.”
