DOVER – Energize Delaware has launched its Residential Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) program and education website. Market-rate customers can get up to 50% off EVSE purchase and installation costs, while low-income customers are eligible for rebates covering up to 90%.
“We are excited to share this new program, education website, and announce rebates on charging equipment through our online marketplace. Thanks to Rep. Sophie Phillips and Sen. McBride leading the effort to pass this legislation, we are committed to reducing the cost of EVSE installation” Drew Slater, executive director of Energize Delaware, said in a statement. “In addition, by pairing a rebate with our home energy audits, we have the ability to reduce the impact on residential utility costs as well as any potential increased load on the grid by focusing on efficiency and electrification collaboratively. It’s an exciting opportunity for us.”
“House Bill 13 makes charging equipment more affordable, especially for lower income households. This legislation helps continue our efforts to electrify our transportation sector, reduce air pollution, and ensure that nobody gets left behind” Bill Sponsor Rep. Sophie Phillips (D-East Newark/Christiana) said.
In addition to electric vehicle (EV) education, Senator Sarah McBride noted, “as the market for automobiles continues to shift away from gas-powered cars and towards electric vehicles, we have an opportunity to provide financial support to a growing number of Delawareans who wish to purchase an EV. I’m glad to have worked with Rep. Phillips and Energize Delaware on increasing EV affordability and access.”
Eligible costs include charger, installation, labor, and equipment necessary to implement and operate an EV. The program allows one rebate per residence for their private use at or near their residence.
