DELAWARE CITY – In June, 16 local charities from Sussex to New Castle County were presented with proceeds from the Delaware City Refining Company’s (DCRC) sixth annual charity golf fundraiser, totaling $140,000. The annual fundraiser was held in May at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington.

This year’s charity golf fundraiser reached a charitable giving milestone with more than one million dollars donated to over 100 charitable and nonprofit organizations in Delaware over a seven-year period.

“This was an amazing year for the annual golf fundraiser, charitable organizations, and all involved. The proceeds from this year’s tournament brings the total monies donated to nonprofit organizations throughout Delaware, to more than $1 million since the tournament’s inception,” DCRC General Manager Michael Capone said in a statement. “But what’s most important is that we’re making a positive difference in the lives of thousands of people in communities stretching from Sussex to New Castle County.”

The oversized and cashable checks were presented to representatives of each organization by Capone, DCR business partners, and members of the refinery’s charity golf selection committee. Each organization was given two minutes to discuss the work that their organization is doing to improve the quality of life for those in need, and how they will use the donation.

Dedicated to improving lives, the Delaware community agencies receiving donations provide a wide variety of services – ranging from care and support for children who have been abused, services for those with physical and intellectual disabilities, mental services for disadvantaged children, providing meals for the elderly, and educational and recreational programs for at-risk youth.

Nominated and selected by employees at the Delaware City Refining Company, this year’s grant recipients include: Christina Cultural Arts Center, Clothing Our Kids, Delaware City Food Closet, Emmanuel’s Dining Hall, Family Counseling Center, Friendship House, Greater Newark Boys & Girls Club, Kent-Sussex Industries Inc., Meals On Wheels Lewes & Dover, Mental Health Association in Delaware, Modern Maturity Center, Our Daily Bread, Saint Patrick’s Center, Special Olympics of Delaware, Tristate Bird Rescue and Research, and the United Way of Delaware – Learning Pods.

“Thanks to the hard work of our employees and the tremendous support of our business partners, we can help hundreds of disadvantaged children, their families, and many others in Delaware,” Capone added. “We’re proud to support so many worthy causes, and since the recipients were selected by our refinery employees, these donations are especially meaningful.”
