Croda donates $10K to youth mental health support center

NEW CASTLE –  Croda Inc, an international chemical company, donated $10,000 to Sean’s House, a Newark-based nonprofit, as part of its observance of World Mental Health Day.

Croda Inc. operates the Atlas Point facility in New Castle.

The $10,000 will be used to support Sean’s House’s newest initiative, The Garage. The Garage is being renovated into a yoga studio, mindfulness center, sauna, and support group meeting space. When the renovation of the building is complete early in 2025, Croda’s donation will go towards funding instructors and materials used for programs at The Garage. Sean’s House offers free resources and a safe space for young Delawareans seeking mental health support.

Regarding the donation, Chris Locke, co-founder of Sean’s House said, “Croda’s gift allows us to more fully realize our vision for The Garage space at Sean’s House. Serving as a nexus of mental and physical health, this donation allows our organization to expand the always-free services we provide to youth in the community.” He continued, “It means a lot that Croda’s team sees the benefits of our services and wants to invest in our organization.”

Croda Inc’s donation is part of its larger efforts to normalize the conversation around mental health amongst its team and continue to improve mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. Croda Inc recognized World Mental Health Day by making it a company holiday for all US locations. Earlier in the month, Croda held a presentation at its Atlas Point facility in New Castle D.E. that was livestreamed for all North American employees. Jon Elliott, Croda’s Regional Technical Manager, and Chris Locke discussed their personal experiences with mental health as parents and detailed how asking for help and accessing available resources benefited their lives and the lives of their families.

Jon Elliott said, “Sean’s House’s peer-to-peer support program is particularly impactful. This nonprofit is an invaluable resource that helps many young adults in the community who are looking to access mental health services in a more casual and relatable environment.” He continued, “I am thrilled Croda has chosen to support this organization. I know these funds will truly change lives.”
