ChristianaCare as 5th best health system to work for in the United States

ChristianaCare also ranked 29th as best large employer in the U.S. overall

This is the third honor in three years that ChristianaCare has received from Forbes, which also ranked it in 2020 and 2019 as the number one employer in Delaware.

To create the list of America’s Best Large Employers, Forbes partnered with the market research firm Statista, which surveyed 50,000 people working in businesses with at least 1,000 employees. All responses were anonymous.

Using a scale of zero to 10, the respondents rated how likely they were to recommend their employer to others. The participants also nominated organizations other than their own.

The final ranking features companies with the most recommendations. Forbes’ list of large employers includes 500 companies with more than 5,000 employees. With 13,412 employees — known as caregivers — ChristianaCare is 29th overall.

“This honor is so meaningful because it comes from people both within our organization and our community,” said Dr. Neil Jasani, chief people officer, in a statement.

“They openly and honestly shared their opinions. This honor is especially gratifying as we approach the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic in our community.

“We have worked hard to support our caregivers throughout this crisis with prepaid childcare, advanced paid leave, behavioral health and emotional support through our nationally recognized Center for WorkLife Wellbeing and so much more.”

Other support that ChristianaCare provided to its caregivers through the pandemic included:

  • A designated COVID-19 testing center.
  • A COVID-19 Caregiver Relief Fund that provided temporary relief for caregivers experiencing unavoidable financial hardship as a result of the pandemic through community charitable contributions.
  • 24/7 mental health support through its Center for WorkLife Wellbeing and an employee assistance program that helped solve everyday issues.
  • Prepaid hotel rooms for caregivers who needed to self-isolate, so they didn’t have to travel home.

In addition, ChristianaCare launched an innovative Employee COVID-19 Symptom Monitoring and Testing Program to support caregiver and patient safety. That program has gone national with 37 employers in 14 states. ChristianaCare is increasing safety and easing anxiety at these organizations by offering them daily monitoring of employees for symptoms, as well as testing and care, if necessary.

According to Forbes, the U.S. economy has lost nearly 10 million jobs since the pandemic’s start. However, companies on the best large employers list are working to attract and retain top talent while keeping their employees and people they serve safe.

Forbes’ recent recognition is one of many top-employer awards that ChristianaCare has received. The Delaware News Journal has ranked ChristianaCare one of the state’s top workplaces in the state for 16 consecutive years.
