WILMINGTON – ChristianaCare CEO Dr. Janice Nevin joined health care industry leaders at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) for a panel discussion on the future of technology in health care. In her Jan. 9 talk, Dr. Nevin highlighted her focus on patient care, and how technology currently being deployed at ChristianaCare’s hospitals are saving staff valuable time, providing better patient outcomes, and driving down health care costs.
“As I think about 2025, there’s an incredible opportunity given the technology available to us to help solve some of the troubling issues in health care, whether it be our ability to care for a significantly growing elderly population, support our workforce, or solve for the financial issues so we can make care more affordable,” Dr. Nevin said in a statement. “We need to think creatively and use technology to help our caregivers so they can do what they came to health care to do, which is provide that human touch.”
ChristianaCare was the first health system in the Philadelphia region to pilot an innovative tool called Moxi, a collaborative robot that can assist in the hospital by making deliveries and performing other non-clinical tasks so that nurses and other clinical staff can spend more time focused on what they do best — caring for patients. To date, Moxi has made more than 30,000 trips and saved nurses more than 18 million steps. ChristianaCare is also using AI to analyze data, identify potential complications, and assist in early detection through ambient voice technology. For nearly two months, 35 ChristianaCare pilot users have been using this technology, allowing clinicians more time with the patient rather than note taking.
